The PICTURES e-learning platform introduces a pioneering educational approach tailored to the evolving needs of correctional systems across Europe. As part of the EU-funded PICTURES- “Pedagogical Inclusive Education and Training System to Upskills Cross-Sector Practitioners Working with Minors and Emerging Adults in Correctional Systems” Project (Project number: 101140185, Call reference: ERASMUS-EDU-2023-PI-ALL-INNO- 101140185) this platform serves as a key tool to modernize and humanize correctional education. It offers two comprehensive courses: one for current practitioners and one for learners preparing to work in justice-related environments, each structured into 10 specialized modules. These learning paths aim to support professionals in building the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and transversal competencies to work effectively with emerging adults (ages 18–25) in correctional settings.
The platform is grounded in robust research and sector-wide collaboration, notably the Occupational Profiles developed through the PICTURES project. These profiles were created using DACUM methodology and validated through national and European-level consultations with correctional officers, educators, psychologists, legal experts, and social workers. The findings identified a shared need across Europe for upskilling in critical areas such as mental health support, intercultural communication, digital literacy, crisis management, and inclusive pedagogy. By integrating these findings into the learning modules, the platform ensures its training content is directly aligned with the practical realities and challenges correctional professionals face daily.
